Clegg promises Yorkshire in line for new investment

DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg revealed the Government will be announcing new investment in Yorkshire over the next few months, after a leading businessman warned the region was in danger of "falling off the world business map".

Speaking at the launch of law firm Kennedys' office in Sheffield Mr Clegg also suggested there might be support for Sheffield Forgemasters, which recently suffered from the cancellation of an 80m Government loan.

He said: "We have always said that when the public finances become clearer, after the comprehensive spending round, we stand ready to do everything we can to support what is a great Sheffield company."

On Thursday, Kevin McCabe, whose empire includes Sheffield United Football Club, claimed the decision to scrap the Yorkshire Forward development agency could harm the local economy.
