Clegg welcomes honour for Ennis
DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg has welcomed news that Olympic gold medal winner Jessica Ennis would be granted the Freedom of Sheffield at a meeting next month.
Council leader Julie Dore had announced the honour for the heptathlete, and a full meeting of Sheffield Council will be asked to approve the idea on September 5.
The vote, which is a requirement of granting the status, is expected to be a formality. An official ceremony will take place later.
Mr Clegg said yesterday: “It is only right that our city awards its highest possible honour and I’m delighted that a date has now been set.”
