Clifftop couple hit red tape tangle in home bid

The rate of erosion on the East Riding coast ranges from between 4ft and 8ft a year, but losses of up to 65ft have been recorded in some years.

Dozens of properties in the area are thought to have gone over the edge of the cliff in recent years.

At least 30 Holderness villages have been lost to the sea since Roman times as a direct result of coastal erosion.

They include Ravenser Odd on the Spurn peninsula, which was once a thriving sea port but by the middle of the 14th century had lost a third of its buildings.
