Closing times change at town hospital

County residents are being urged to help shape the future of a hospital unit after plans to reduce its opening hours significantly were reversed.

Malton Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is expected to be granted a partial reprieve after proposals were unveiled last week for weekend opening again after a trial of fewer hours began in December.

However, the NHS Scarborough and Ryedale Clinical Commissioning Group, which takes over from the primary care trust in April, plans to close the MIU on weekday evenings after a review found an average of only six people used the unit after 6pm daily.

The CCG yesterday launched a four-week public consultation on the proposed new opening times.

The temporary reduction in hours saved about £95,000.
