Club raises £100,000 to back 999 helicopters

SUPPORTERS of Huddersfield Town have helped raise more than £100,000 to help keep Yorkshire's two air ambulances flying.

This weekend's West Yorkshire derby between Huddersfield Town and Leeds United will be dedicated to the Keep It Up campaign, which has been helping the Yorkshire Air Ambulance meet a 7,200-a-day bill to keep the two helicopters in the air.

Huddersfield Town players will be raising money for the charity campaign by warming up before Saturday's game in special yellow T-shirts.

Two hundred and fifty of these special T-shirts will be available for sale from today with the player-worn T-shirts being signed and auctioned off after the game. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance's colours, yellow and red, have also been adopted to make two distinct collectable covers for the match-day magazine, Give Us An H.

The Keep It Up campaign was created by Huddersfield Town last year as way to help Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Fifty pence of each 1 raised goes to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and 50p to the club's academy.

The club's commercial director, Sean Jarvis, said: "This weekend's big Yorkshire derby is the perfect game for supporters of both clubs to show their support for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the life-saving service they provide. We have raised over 100,000 for the campaign so far which is a fantastic barrier to break and the more money that can be raised to help the Yorkshire Air Ambulance through the Keep It Up campaign, the better."

The Keep it Up campaign has been so successful it has been shortlisted for a Football League Award.

As well as being nominated as The Family Club of the Year, the Terriers are also nominated for the Best Marketing Campaign of the Year for the campaign.

The club donated the sponsor's position on the front of the home shirt to the charity and the campaign has made local, regional and national headlines.

The Football League Awards will be held on March 14 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Saturday's Huddersfield-Leeds game at the Galpharm Stadium kicks off at the earlier time of 12.30pm.
