Club's rallying call for first century

A HULL cricket club is looking for former players to help it celebrate an important century.

Hull Zingari, who were founded in 1896 and are the city's oldest cricket club, will be marking 100 years of the sound of leather on willow at their ground at the Hull and East Riding Sports Club on Chanterlands Avenue North.

They moved there from the Sailors Children's Home on Cottingham Road, half a mile away, in 1910.

A star-studded team of former England players is heading to Hull for the event on Sunday, July 11.

John Lever will captain a side including Derek Randall, Jim Parks and former Yorkshire stars Arnold Sidebottom and Jim Love, who will line up against a Hull Zingari President's Select XI. Money raised from the event will go towards the club, particularly its junior section.

Zingari will be holding a pre-match lunch at Hull University Staff House, with each table hosted by an Old England player. Tickets are 25 each.

The East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band will be performing and there will be an all-day barbecue and beer tent. Gates open at 11.30am and the match starts at 2pm.
