Colliery could get its own waste power plant

Peel Environmental wants to build a plant at the colliery, near Beal, North Yorkshire, capable of producing enough electricity to power 63,000 homes and heat that could supply the colliery and potentially nearby businesses.

Richard Barker, development manager, Peel Environmental said: “If built, our proposed energy centre will operate an efficient Combined Heat and Power system, using waste as a fuel to release energy.

“It will use up to 280,000 tonnes per year of non-hazardous residual waste including industrial, commercial and possibly household from across the region, diverting it from landfill and producing renewable energy.”

Public exhibitions are being held on Friday, September 28, 2pm-8pm at Eggborough Village Hall and on Monday October 1, 2pm-8pm, Knottingley Town Hall.
