The 58 elephants will unleashed when the Herd of Sheffield sculpture trail goes live next week.

The 1.6m tall fiberglass sculptures, decorated by artists including Pete McKee, James Green, Jonathan Wilkinson and Lydia Monks, will pop up in parks and open spaces to create one of the city’s biggest ever mass participation arts events.

The Arctic Monkeys even have their own elephant – and yesterday put their signatures to the sculpture during a visit to their home city. “We’ve never been asked to sign an elephant before,” said bassist Nick O’Malley.

Wild in Art runs until September when the sculptures will be auctioned to raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
