North Yorkshire fire crews put out the flames in a field in Newbridge, near Pickering, at around 6.30pm yesterday.

Firefighters had to use breathing equipment and thermal imaging cameras to tackle the blaze after a mechanic fault caused the farming machine to catch fire.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Crews from Pickering, Malton and Kirkbymoorside attended to a fire to a combine harvester which had then spread to a field of standing and cut corn measuring approximately two acres.

"This was caused by a hydraulic fault on the combine harvester."
