Community centre hope for resort

HORNSEA should have a new community centre this summer, the town council has said after appointing a contractor to develop a former Methodist church hall.

Hornsea firm Kemp Developments was chosen from five tenders after a lengthy procurement process that should now safeguard the future of the site in Newbegin.

As well as being a new home for the town council, the facility is intended to act as a community and information hub for many groups and organisations.

The building will also provide gallery space for exhibitions and has the potential to host small conferences.

The council said: "By pioneering this move the town council is bringing back to life an otherwise redundant building in the town centre of no little architectural merit.

"The contractors are a local, well respected and award winning company who will be using local labour to kick start the regeneration of Newbegin."

Mayor John Whittle added: "This project is seen as a bold and innovative move by a forward thinking council."

Work is expected to be completed by August.
