Community groups around region 
share in £1m windfall from lottery

Projects across Yorkshire and the Humber aimed at building stronger communities will benefit from £990,419 paid out through the Awards for All programme.

The grants include £9,238 to the Homegrown Food Group in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, for a food festival including cookery demonstrations, foraging for wild food, bee-keeping, keeping chickens and growing fruit and vegetables in small spaces.

Also receiving funding is Skipton Extended Learning For All who will be using £8,467 to run family learning workshops in puppet making for vulnerable young people, during the holidays.

Friends of Middleton Park in Leeds has been awarded £7,250 to run events between May and September to publicise the park and new visitors centre while Catliffe Primary School and The Meadows Children’s Centre in Rotherham have received £9,223 to run after school activities, alongside four partner primary schools, based around various cultures including African dancing and origami. The activities are aimed at helping schools come together in the holidays for their “International Week”, increasing the children’s knowledge of different cultures and traditions from around the world.

A further £7,950 is being spent on organising an event to celebrate International Older People’s Day in Rotherham.
