Community order over child images

A man who downloaded more than 1,000 indecent images of children onto his computer has been given a three-year community order.

David Cockshott, who has resigned from his job since the offences came to light, was arrested by police in November 2008 after computer equipment and memory sticks were seized from his home in Ilkley Hall Mews, Ilkley.

A judge at Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that all the indecent images were rated as level one which is the least serious form of child pornography.

Cockshott, 43, now of Brighouse and Denholme Road, Thornton, Bradford, admitted 21 offences relating to the making of indecent images of children.

After reports and testimonials on behalf of Cockshott Judge John Potter decided that a three-year community order was appropriate in his case.

Under the order Cockshott will have to be supervised by the probation service for three years and must attend sex offender treatment programmes.

He will also be subject to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which limits his contact with youngsters, and must sign on as a sex offender with the police for the next five years.
