Commuter traffic chaos as animal feed spill closes M62

COMMUTER traffic was at a standstill on the M62 this morning after a lorry crash scattered animal feed across three lanes of traffic.

It is understood an HGV collided with a the central reservation close to Junction 30 of the M62 westbound near Normanton, at around 4.30am.

Police said the driver had been seriously injured and that animal feed had been spilled across all three lanes.

The M62 remained closed through the morning rush hour, causing severe delays and stationary traffic in both directions between Junctions 30 and 31, Traffic was tailing back to Junction 29 at the M1 and to the A1(M) at Junction 32a.

The Highways Agency said: “The M62 is closed in both directions between junctions J30 and J31 due to a serious incident. The road is expected to re-open from 11am.”
