Commuters face misery as snow falls: Latest travel update

Motorists were warned to take care due to snow on the roads across Yorkshire this morning as commuters woke to clogged roads.

The Met Office’s yellow warning means roads across the county are likely to be hazardous.

The weather has caused a number of roads to be disrupted across Yorkshire.

Huddersfield was particularly hit with long queues forming along the A629 from the town centre to Ainley Top with its motorway access.

Many motorists turned round while some simply abandoned their cars to seek other forms of transport.

A number of roads are closed in East, West, North and South Yorkshire due to blizzard conditions. It is understood Leeds Bradord airport is experiencing delays.

In West Yorkshire one lane is blocked on the M62 eastbound due to a broken down lorry on between Junctions 22 and 23 at Huddersfield.

And there are reports that there are as many as 10 stranded lorries on the motorway due to the weather conditions.

The Woodhead Holme Moss Road is closed between Greenfield Road and Torside Reservoir.

In Holmfirth Greenfield Road is also closed due to poor weather conditions.

In South Yorkshire the A628 is closed to heavy goods vehicles at Langsett.

The A57 Snakepass, which links Sheffield and Manchester, is closed between Ladybower and Manor Park Road.

The A169 is closed between the A170 Hungate junction in Pickering and the A171 Guisborough Road junction in Whitby, because of snow.

North Yorkshire Police said snow drifts had caused problems for motorists in the Ryedale area and is asking motorists to drive with care.

In East Yorkshire the B1248 is closed between the A166 junction in Wetwang and the Little Wood Street junction in Norton, because of snow.

The A629 Halifax Road in Denholme closed between the B6145 Thornton Road junction and the Whitehill Road junction because of snow.

And there is queueing traffic on A58 Godley Road in both directions in Halifax at the Godley Branch Road junction.

Leeds Bradford Airport reported delays on flights to Brussels, Dublin, Amsterdam, Riga and Kaunas, with severe delays on holiday flights to Palma, Malaga and Alicante.
