Companies fined for illegally dumping waste

THREE companies have been ordered to pay out a total of more than £30,000 between them after each pleading guilty to charges of illegally dumping construction waste in Doncaster.

Charges were brought by the Environment Agency against Wykeham Estates (Northern); Bolland Skip Services and Westmoreland Waste Recycling in relation to dumping that took place to build a haul road at Hurst Plantation in Auckley.

Investigators found that 1,350 tonnes of waste had been unlawfully disposed of. They also found a dirt track had been turned into a road made up of soil, plastic, tarmac and metal, as well as waste later found to contain asbestos.

At Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, District Judge Bennett said the case was a “reckless breach of the law.”
