Companions wanted at hospice

VOLUNTEERS are needed to offer companionship to patients during their stay at St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield.

The role of the “companion volunteers” will include reading, playing games and accompanying patients to the hospice garden or arts and crafts area.

Joy Wigfield, volunteer co-ordinator at the hospice in Little Common Lane, Whirlow, said: “This is going to be a challenging but rewarding role, one that encompasses positive interaction with patients to enhance their wellbeing while at the same time maintaining privacy and dignity for the individual at all times.”

They will also be required to have a current enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

Ms Wigfield added: “We believe this is a fantastic opportunity to give some time and personal skills and gain satisfaction and life experience while becoming part of the valued volunteer team at St Luke’s Hospice.”
