Company’s minibus donation welcomed

COMMUNITY groups in Rotherham are being offered continued use of a new minibus which has been donated to the town’s mayor by a local repairs and maintenance company.

Morrison offered the 17-seat bus to Rotherham mayor Coun Rose McNeely as part of the company’s commitment to supporting community work across the borough.

The firm has a £60.5m contract for the provision of repairs and maintenance to over 13,000 local authority properties in Rotherham.

The mayor has now decided to loan the bus to Rotherham Community Transport, which aims to hire out the vehicle for reasonable rates to groups in the area.

Coun McNeely said “The minibus was such a marvellous gesture – one that shows their commitment to Rotherham – that I grabbed it with both hands.

“And the icing on the cake has been just how much the bus has been used and will be used in the future.”

Morrison spokesman Andy Wilson said: “When we offered to donate the minibus to the mayor last September we realised that this scheme had a huge capability to make a real difference to the lives of the local community.

“Morrison is fully committed to helping people in Rotherham and we are extremely pleased to see that the minibus is being used by such a wide variety of local people.

“I am sure that now the minibus has been officially handed over to Rotherham Community Transport it will continue to be a huge asset to the Rotherham community.”

Stephen Hewitson, general manager of Rotherham Community Transport, added: “This vehicle will help in the organisation of a range of social and recreational activities for children, young people and older people around Rotherham.”
