Company’s £50,000 insulation grant ‘will help centre of village life to thrive’

The scheme helps by awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK.

The insulation project, which was awarded funding under Biffa Award’s Community Buildings theme, will include the installation of a new roof with roof lights, new double-glazed internal doors and redecoration throughout the premises.

Built by the community in 1977 using village labour and expertise, villagers say this busy village hall is an essential local resource.

It caters for local schools, the local church, dancing and exercise groups, and a variety of private celebrations.

In more recent years local user groups have complained that the hall is too cold and sessions have had to be cancelled in the summer and the winter months because of the uncomfortable temperatures.

The committee hopes that the completed insulation works will encourage more local groups to make use of the facility throughout the year.

Scotton Village Hall will host a celebration tea on Sunday, October 12, from 2pm to 4pm.

The local community is invited along to celebrate the completed re-roofing project.

Hall manager Stephen Barnes said: “Scotton Village Hall has suffered from the effect of not having a thermally insulated roof with cancellation of bookings in winter and overheating in the summer.

The newly insulated roof, made possible thanks to a grant from Biffa Award, will correct this deficiency and make the hall more pleasant for all users.”
