Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor John Leach said: “The University of Hull has a really compelling story to tell so we naturally wanted to be involved in the Heritage Open Days.

“We’ve been in the spotlight recently because of our links with Philip Larkin, but many people won’t know about our other achievements.

“Liquid crystals were invented at the university and they are used by millions of people around the world in mobile phones and televisions, and world-class research continues in this field, alongside others such as health and wellbeing and international maritime studies.”

John Netherwood, chairman of Hull Civic Society, said: “We think this year’s offering is one of the strongest yet and we hope it will give you every opportunity to visit our fine collection of historical buildings not normally open to the public.”
