‘Complain to get action on water plant’

RESIDENTS fed up with the stink from a waste water works are being urged to complain to Yorkshire Water or their council.

One of the two odour control units at Saltend, near Hull, disintegrated after an intense fire last month.

Hedon councillor Mike Bryan said the council had got fewer than 10 complaints, yet he was getting calls saying the smell was worse than ever before.

He said: “People say what are you doing about the smell? I say I can’t do anything until I get your support. If people don’t ring the council or Yorkshire Water they can’t progress it.”

Yorkshire Water has deployed two mobile odour control units. The firm said yesterday that as a result of more complaints it had inspected the site and found a problem with low flows into some of the open air tanks. The firm is trying to increase flows and add bugs to break down the waste.
