Concerns grow for missing mother and baby girl

Police were yesterday still trying to trace a mother and her baby who went missing in Huddersfield on Monday.

Jodie Little, 23, and an 11-month old girl were reported missing from social services premises in Huddersfield after going there for a meeting.

When they were reported missing, police began to try to find them. Officers yesterday said they urgently needed to speak to Jodie to make sure both she and the baby were safe and well.

Superintendent David Lunn said: “Since Jodie and the child were reported as missing a wide range of enquiries have been carried out to find them.

“However, both are still missing and we are therefore renewing our appeal for the public to contact us if they see anyone matching Jodie’s description.”

Jodie, who has family in the area, was yesterday believed to be still in the Huddersfield area and teams of technical experts were busy trying to track her down after she used her mobile phone.

A police source said: “The main leads have come as a result of the police investigation, not information from the public.”

The Yorkshire Post understands Jodie had been in a relationship with the father of the baby girl but this had foundered.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We received a call of concern reporting her missing with an 11-month-old baby girl.

“Jodie was reported missing from a social services premises in Huddersfield, (the Civic Centre) with the girl at around 10am after attending there for a pre-arranged meeting.

“Officers would urgently like to speak to Jodie to make sure both she and the baby are OK and are conducting a range of enquiries to find them.”

Jodie is described as white and was last seen wearing a black and white checked shirt and blue jeans.

Although police are anxious to resolve the issue and find the duo they say they are not worried that the child is in any imminent danger.

Kirklees councillor Cliff Preest, who represents the Dalton ward for Labour, said he hoped Jodie and the baby, who has not been named by the police, could be found soon safe and well.

He added: “That’s right, absolutely, it’s what we all want to see happen.”

A police spokesman said if anyone does see Jodie the best thing to do was to contact the police immediately and not to approach her directly.

Attempts to trace Jodie have also seen the police appealing via Twitter for anyone who has any information about her to get in touch.

Anyone who has seen Jodie and the baby is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police on 01924 334697.
