Concert due to feature sounds of celebration

ONE of Yorkshire’s cathedrals will be the setting for a concert at the weekend to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and celebrate the music that has marked Royal occasions for centuries.

York Minster will host the concert of music associated with Royal occasions to mark 60 years since the Queen came to the throne.

Musical works will include Handel’s Coronation Anthems and Music for the Royal Fireworks, which were both composed for King George II.

The concert will also feature pieces by Sir Hubert Parry, whose work has been a staple of more recent Royal occasions including the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last year.

The event on Saturday will feature the York Musical Society Chorus and Orchestra. Tickets for the concert, which will start at 7.30pm, are available online at www.boxoffice.yorkminster.org or by calling 0844 939 0015.
