Concert to mark centenary at hall

A special concert is being held to mark the centenary of Hull City Hall’s organ.

Well-known organist Thomas Trotter will be performing a programme at 2.30pm on Saturday June 4 featuring a range of musical masterpieces including A. Hollins’ Concert Overture in C Minor, C.M Widor’s Allegro Vivace from Symphony No.5, and F.Liszt’s Prelude and Fugue on Bach. The second half of the programme includes E. Coates’ The Princess Elizabeth March, P.Whitlock’s Canzona and Scherzetta, and last but not least, F.Mendelssohn’s Scherzo and War March of the Priests.

In 1900, a scheme was drawn up to build a public hall in the centre of Hull.

JH Hirst, the City Architect, along with renowned architect Frank Matcham, designed the building in the renaissance style of the Wren period.

Work started on the building in 1903 and it was brought into use by 1909.

Cream teas will be available after the performance.

Tickets priced £10 to £16 are available from the Hull City Council Booking Office and The Wilson Centre.
