Consultation on NHS changes delayed

A CONSULTATION on the future of hospitals in Doncaster and Mexborough has been put on hold while staff put “final touches” to the plans.

NHS Doncaster is drawing up plans to alter those services currently provided at Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Tickhill Road Hospital in Doncaster.

The proposals involve changes such as closing rehabilitation services at Tickhill Road and moving Montagu Hospital’s acute services to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

NHS Doncaster’s medical adviser, Dr Lis Rodgers, confirmed that the public consultation – which was meant to begin yesterday – will still go ahead, but said clinicians have “asked for some extra time to put the final touches to their plans”.

Dr Rodgers said: “We have just had a visit from the NHS’s National Clinical Advisory Team, who reviewed our proposals for Montagu and Tickhill Road hospitals and gave the go-ahead for public consultation to start.

“In doing so, they also made some suggestions for additional detail to be added to the consultation document, which we are currently working on.

“This will cause a short delay to the consultation launch.”
