Cop to be sentenced for brothels theft

A FORMER police constable will be sentenced today for stealing money found in raids at suspected brothels and lapdancing clubs.

James Hughes also misused force computers to access information about women that would not be used for police business.

The 31-year-old, from Leeds, resigned from his job with West Yorkshire Police last July.

He admitted theft and three charges of misconduct in a public office at Leeds Crown Court last month and will be sentenced at the same court later today.

The offences took place between February 2010 and July last year.

Speaking at the time of his guilty pleas, prosecutor Richard Walters said: “Whilst employed as a police constable he has taken money that has been found at raids at suspected brothels and lapdancing clubs.”

He added that Hughes had been “using the police computer system to gain information on women”.
