Council calls for help with history

Calderdale Council is inviting residents and community groups to help conserve the district’s historic environment.

Officials have already produced a draft strategy with input from English Heritage.

This has identified aims and objectives for a dedicated conservation team as well as some initial priorities.

However, a public meeting to discuss this first stage of the process has been called for Tuesday August 23 in Room B of Halifax Town Hall.

Anyone else interested will also be able to contribute – by filling in an online questionnaire between next Monday, when it becomes available, and Friday September 9.

After this, the conservation team will produce an action plan for approval by the council’s cabinet.

Rastrick Conservative Councillor Ann McAllister, the district’s heritage champion, said: “This consultation approach will give a major steer in the future development of any conservation areas throughout Calderdale.

“I urge members of the public with an interest of Calderdale’s heritage to get involved and help conserve some of the fantastic heritage that Calderdale has to offer,” she added.
