Council faces protesters

DEMONSTRATORS will once again gather outside a council HQ to protest at a director's golden goodbye.

The Taxpayers' Alliance says nothing has changed since their last protest over the 364,205 payment to Sue Lockwood's pension fund.

The discretionary payment to the outgoing director of corporate resources, who is taking early retirement, was approved by East Riding Council's Conservative cabinet, in spite of a furore.

The protest at Beverley, the day after the Government's emergency budget on June 22, has been timed to coincide with a meeting of East Riding Council which needs to sign off minutes approving the payment.

Protest organiser Andrew Allison said they were also objecting to the treatment of Tory councillor Gary Shores who lost positions on two scrutiny committees after defying instructions not to attend an earlier protest.
