Council hails parking ticket record

EAST Riding Council claims it is less officious than other authorities when it comes to enforcing parking regulations after taking over responsibility from police.

The council issued 868 penalty charge notices between November 7, when it took control, and December 4 - a figure it says represents the “sensible and balanced” approach of its enforcement officers.

According to the council, this compares favourably with the monthly averages of other councils such as Kirklees (2,402 tickets), Doncaster (1,814) Hull (1,739), Scarborough (1,683), Harrogate (1,472), and Calderdale (1,163).

John Skidmore, head of streetscene services at East Riding Council, said: “The number of PCNs issued by East Riding of Yorkshire Council in the first month of operations is relatively low compared to the average monthly figures of other councils in the Yorkshire region. It is testament to the fair, sensible and balanced approach this authority is taking.

“CPE (civil parking enforcement) benefits us all by ensuring that highways are clear of illegally parked vehicles which cause obstruction and congestion.”
