The council semi with an LA-style pool in the back: Now officials step in

COUNCIL house tenants who built a swimming pool so large it took up most of the garden at their Doncaster home have sparked an official investigation.

The luxurious pool is set in a patio at the modest three-bedroomed semi in Rossington, near Doncaster, and is so large it can be clearly seen on Google Earth.

The pool, which takes up most of the back garden of the house, was spotted by a staff member from St Leger Homes, which manages properties on behalf of Doncaster Council, while they were carrying out routine checks.

Neighbours in Gattison Lane named the couple as David and Lisa Frost, both in their forties, who moved into the house almost six years ago.

Mr Frost, a landscape gardener, spent thousands of pounds renovating the run-down property and neighbours watched as a builder dug up the large back garden and began laying the pool.

A six-foot-high wall was also put up around the garden, for privacy.

Since then the couple, who have two young sons, have staged several summer pool parties.

Neighbour Gwendoline Taylor, 84, said: “I can see the pool from my bedroom window and it takes up all the garden with the decking around it.

“I don’t know whether they have permission to build the pool or not, it’s nothing to do with me.

“But they have done a really professional job with it.”

Another neighbour added: “It was a bit of a surprise. This is a council estate and it’s not the sort of road when you normally find a luxury swimming pool.”

A spokesman for St Leger Homes said: “Permission for the pool was not sought prior to it being built and would not have been granted. We are currently investigating the history following our staff reporting its existence.

“All applicants for a council home are now assessed financially before they are eligible for a property.

“Once they become a secure tenant, however, a change in their financial circumstances does not legally affect their tenancy.”
