Council van vandalised at car boot sale

POLICE are hunting a vandal who damaged a council’s parking enforcement van at a giant Yorkshire car boot sale.

Thousands of people attended the event outside Dewsbury Rams’ ground in Owl Lane on Sunday morning.

A Kirklees Council parking enforcement officer discovered a tyre on a Vauxhall Combo van had been slashed on Sunday morning.

Police are seeking witnesses.

A police spokesman said: “The offence on Owl lane is reported to have taken place between 10.40am and 11.51am, after a tyre was slashed on a Vauxhall Combo van.

“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Dewsbury and Mirfield NPT on 101 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.”

In January it was revealed that a Kirklees Council mobile parking van had generated more than £118,000 worth of fines from 4,490 people since 2011.

Kirklees introduced the £73,000 Vauxhall Combo CCTV enforcement van in May 2011.
