Councillor opens new roundabout

A NEW roundabout on the A1079 near Pocklington will improve safety on one of the region’s most dangerous roads, a senior councillor has said.

The development has seen the junction at Hodsow Lane close and two new roads built to link the roundabout to West Green, Pocklington and Main Street, Allerthorpe.

The new layout will allows for a further road link that will open part of a new 27-acre mixed-use development.

The roundabout was officially opened yesterday by East Riding Council chairman Councillor Kay West.

She said: “The roundabout will help relieve congestion in the area and improve safety and access. The old junction meant motorists had to wait for long periods for a break in traffic, but the new roundabout will mean less waiting and make it easier for traffic to join the A1079.

“The roundabout is great news for Pocklington and the surrounding areas and will also benefit the local economy and hopefully create new employment opportunities.”

Three years ago a survey found the A1079 to be one of the most dangerous roads in the country.
