Councillor’s anger as fraud claims passed to council

A councillor will make a complaint to police after allegations of fraud he handed over were not investigated.

Councillor Martyn Bolt passed information about alleged metal theft relating to the failed Able2 environment project in Heckmondwike, which got £1.2m of council cash.

A Force spokesman said: “West Yorkshire Police has received correspondence in relation to this matter but at this stage no report has been made of any criminality.

“We will be referring the information we have received to the council for their own internal auditing purposes.

“If any potential criminal offences are later identified then we will work with the council in investigating these.”

Councillor Bolt said the claims merited more than “cursory perusal”.
