Couple appear in dock accused of killing baby

Daniel Sheard and Lucy Damen appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday after four-month-old Kayleigh Mai Sheard was found dead at their flat in Scholes, Cleckheaton.

Damen, 19, and Sheard, 21, were arrested early on Monday after the infant was found dead when police were called to the property in Foldings Avenue.

The pair, who face charges of familial homicide and unlawful killing, spoke only to confirm their names and addresses during yesterday’s short hearing before being remanded in custody by magistrates to appear at Leeds Crown Court on October 17.
