Couple’s century of Scouting

SCOUTING is a real family affair for one couple. Ron and Pat Pilkington have notched up a combined 113 years of service with the 17th South West Leeds Scout Group, in Armley, Leeds.

Mr Pilkington, 72, a retired chartered accountant, of Armley, joined the group when he was eight.

He met his future wife at a youth club in 1960 and she became the group’s secretary two years later.

The pair, pictured above at a group meeting, say they have no intention of giving up their roles soon.

“There have been plenty of highlights over the years but what’s always stayed the same is the pleasure we get from seeing the children enjoying themselves,” Mr Pilkington said.

The couple have two daughters and four grandchildren.
