Crane takes strain as heavyweight artworks drop-in at sculpture park

A CRANE was used yesterday to lift sculptures into place for a new exhibition.

The large-scale wooden sculptures were moved by crane in preparation for an exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, near Wakefield, by David Nash.

Works weighing several tonnes were lifted into position in and around the Underground Gallery at the sculpture park.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park will host an extensive exhibition of work by David Nash from the end of May, tracing the evolution of the artist's 40 year career.

Sculpture, installation and drawings will be displayed across the park and include new monumental works for the Underground Gallery, a retrospective survey in Longside Gallery and a permanent outdoor commission.

The historic landscape of the Park is a fitting backdrop chosen by Nash, the culmination of a 30-year relationship with YSP, for this unique survey.

This is envisaged to be the largest exhibition, present or future, by an internationally acclaimed artist who has developed an understanding of trees, working with their traits to create sculpture, installation, projects and related drawings.

The exhibition of sculpture, drawing, photography and film exhibition runs from May 29 at the sculpture park. It is at the YSP until next January.
