Crash survivor’s warning to drivers

A PROMISING amateur boxer has urged motorists to take caution as he fears he may never again enter the ring again after surviving a fatal car crash.

Jack Battle, 20, said he had endured the worst year of his life after another passenger was killed when a car they were in hit a lampost and overturned. Mr Battle, from Hillsborough in Sheffield, was treated at the Northern General Hospital for fractured ribs and severe injuries to his right kidney. He still suffers nightmares and flashbacks.

He said: “It’s been the worst year of my life. Following the crash, I remember being in the worst pain I’ve ever been in and I immediately wanted to know if I would be able to box again. I now understand that with my kidney injuries, it’s very unlikely.”

The driver, Joseph Woolhouse, 20, was given a three-year sentence last month for causing death by dangerous driving. His trial heard he was driving at 67mph in a 30mph zone. He was also banned from driving for five years.

Mr Battle is now working with a serious injury solicitor, David Withers, at Irwin Mitchell to get specialist treatment to help with his recovery.
