Crash in Yorkshire Dales claims two lives

POLICE have issued an appeal for information after a road crash in the Yorkshire Dales claimed the lives of two people and injured two pensioners.

A 61-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man, who were both from Colne in Lancashire, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened close to the roundabout at Grassington on Sunday at about 5.10pm.

Their pale blue Hyundai i10 had just passed Skipton Golf Course when it was involved in a collision with a grey Skoda Octavia, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Skoda, an 84-year-old man from Addingham in West Yorkshire, suffered minor injuries in the crash. But his passenger, an 80-year-old woman, who is also from Addingham, was seriously injured and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary. She was still in hospital yesterday in a stable condition.

Officers from the Skipton Roads Policing Group are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information. They can be contacted via the North Yorkshire force’s non-emergency number of 101.
