‘Creative’ sites put on heritage map

A VICTORIAN cutlery works and a Georgian house are among the Yorkshire landmarks to have been included in a new English Heritage publication which celebrates the adaptation of historic buildings for new businesses.

The five sites in the region selected for inclusion in “Constructive Conservation – Sustainable Growth for Historic Places” are the former British Rail ofices in York; the Sellers Wheel complex in Sheffield; Hellifield Peel Castle near Skipton; Norwood House in Beverley, above, and the Linton Falls hydropower plant in Grassington.

Yorkshire’s planning and conservation director for English Heritage, Trevor Mitchell, said yesterday: “In this difficult market it is essential that we work collaboratively with owners and developers to find ways of bringing buildings back into productive use.
