Creative talent out in force for opening of new City Park

While Bradford Council is providing family-friendly street theatre, music and entertainment in the park itself from 2pm to mark the launch, arts groups in the city will also use the opportunity to showcase their work.

Bradford 1 Gallery in Centenary Square is launching the exhibition Street Art: Contemporary Prints from the V&A, which includes pieces by high-profile artists such as Banksy, D*Face and Shepard Fairey.

On Saturday the neighbouring Impressions Gallery is organising a photography walk around City Park, with participants able to upload their photos to appear on the Big Screen. Also on display inside the gallery is the exhibition The Sound of Two Songs, featuring photographs of Poland by Mark Power.

The new six-acre public space – which features a 40,000 square metre mirror pool and more than 100 fountains, including the tallest in any UK city at 30 metres – has been designed to attract visitors and businesses into Bradford city centre.

Arts organisation Fabric will also be holding an exhibition of work by Bradford College students in its Pop Up art space in Centenary Square.

A team from the National Media Museum will also be at City Park to promote Life Online, a permanent gallery dedicated to exploring the social, technological and cultural impact of the internet and the web. The £2m project features a new permanent gallery and space for temporary exhibitions, the first of which opens on March 30.
