Cricket club asks for re-think on dismissal

OFFICIALS at a popular cricket club expelled from a league over unpaid fines have issued a fresh appeal to be allowed back in.

Supporters of Manningham Mills Cricket Club were expelled from the JCT600 Bradford Cricket League last month over a number of issues which came to a head when league members voted 17-7 for expulsion.

The club’s fight for reinstatement is backed by Bradford MP George Galloway.

Officials have now written to the league requesting a meeting to discuss the issues before the 2014 season fixtures are finalised.

The letter says: “We have done deep soul searching internally as a club and can assure you that we will beam in on all the weaknesses and hope to address these to your fullest satisfaction. In return we seek a measured and sensitive response to secure the playing future of so many young cricket players whose development is as precious to you, as guardians and custodians of cricket, as it is to us.”

In the letter, the club admits recent failings.

“We know and accept we have had ground-related issues, delay in the payment of fines and inadequate administration. Fines are now paid and the original delay was caused by a genuine misunderstanding in any case.

“Issues with respect to sight screens, seating and ground upkeep have been taken on board and will be addressed in the close season period.”

The league has yet to reply.

No one was available to comment from the league.
