Crier back amid town hall ding-dong

A TOWN crier suspended for nine weeks has won back his job after an independent investigation was critical of council procedures.

Simon Shaw, 47, was suspended by Knaresborough Town Council in August over various complaints including time-keeping.

But he denied doing anything wrong and has now been vindicated and given his job back.

A report, commissioned by the council, is understood to be critical of the way the authority handled the matter. It suggested that he should not have been suspended in the first place.

Some town councillors have called on colleagues who voted for the suspension to step down.

Last night Mr Shaw said he was delighted to be given his job back and he was looking forward to his first day back, next Wednesday.

Town councillor Andy Wright said: “Simon should never have been suspended. The councillors who suspended him should seriously consider their position.”

A town council spokeswoman confirmed that Mr Shaw had been reinstated.
