Inspector Simon Leake, who is leading the initiative, said house burglary and vehicle crime would be among the issues targeted in the crackdown.

“But we’ll also be tackling overall crime by carrying out warrants, road traffic work and visiting second-hand dealers, scrap yards and licensed premises,” he said.

“Criminals will have no place to hide in Barnsley.

“We want our work to reassure the public that we’re actively looking to protect them.”

The inspector added: “In addition, local policing team officers will be conducting high-visibility patrols in key areas to drive home crime prevention messages and carry out vulnerable vehicle checks.”
