Crime does pay for trainee sniffer dogs

A police force is using cash seized from criminals to train dogs to search for cash hidden by criminals.

Essex Police said they would spend about 2,000 seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act on training three Springer spaniels. A spokeswoman said the puppies would be trained to search for cash, drugs and guns.

“It seemed a good use of the money,” said a police source. “Not only does crime not pay – it can bite you back.”
