Crime fight goes online to attract youth

Neighbourhood watch organisers are out to capture a younger generation of supporters using social media to tackle crime.

The organisation is re-launching in Sheffield with an emphasis on people using mobile phones to keep in touch and find out what is happening in their neighbourhood.

Organiser Wendy Zealand says: “We want users of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media apps to help us all feel safer and join our network. These tools can be useful and efficient in the fight against crime against a backdrop of cuts to policing numbers and rising incidences of household burglary and car crime.”

A re-launch is taking place at Sheffield Hallam University’s Adsetts lecture theatre on August 27. Email [email protected]
