Julia Mulligan, the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, launched her new community fund yesterday at the Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough.

Local community groups, individuals and organisations will be able to apply for grants of between £500 and £20,000 for one-off projects that help keep their local communities safer.

She said: “I am delighted to be able to launch my fund; I’m hoping to support a wide range of projects across the county and the City of York.”

She says prudent financial management and a better than expected financial settlement from the Government means there is a small budget surplus for 2013/14, which will finance the Community Fund. It is one off funding for this financial year only.
