81-year-old man dies after being hit by car while crossing the road in Harrogate

An 81-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while crossing the road in Harrogate.

The man, who has not been named, was crossing Wetherby Road, from The Woodlands Hotel towards Hookstone Chase, when the incident happened just before 5pm on February 4.

He was hit by a grey Audi A3 which was travelling down Wetherby Road from Harrogate. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The road was closed for around seven hours while but reopened at around 1am the following morning.

The 35-year-old driver of the car is helping North Yorkshire Police with its enquiries.

However, officers are appealing for witnesses and information about the fatal collision.

A statement on the North Yorkshire Police website said: "In particular, officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any dash-cam footage taken in the area at the time, which may have captured the collision, or the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the incident."
