Armed police swoop after second raid on Ilkley jeweller

The raiders smashed windows at Lister Horsfall’s shop on the corner of Brook Street and The Grove, then made a high-speed getaway through the town centre.

Witnesses reported seeing men with hammers trying to break through the door and window of the shop, which was the scene of a previous robbery last year.

The police helicopter was called in to assist armed officers at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to a report of a robbery at a commercial premises on Brook Street at about 10.10am. Detectives are on the scene investigating the incident.”
