Armed robber threatens Leeds shopkeeper with claw hammer

A middle-aged shopkeeper was threatened with a claw hammer during a terrifying armed robbery in Leeds.

The incident took place at Farnley Convenience Store on Tong Approach at about 4.15pm on Wednesday.

Two men pulled up outside the store on a scooter before one, wearing a white and blue crash helmet with the visor missing, went inside.

He demanded money from the 59-year-old male shopkeeper and then fled the scene.

The man who entered the store is described as Asian, about 5ft 10in tall and with a long thin nose.

His accomplice was wearing dark clothing and a dark coloured crash helmet.

Police today issued a number of stills from CCTV footage of the raid.

Det Con Craig Rika, from Leeds District CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to what would clearly have been a frightening incident for staff inside the shop.

“I would ask anyone who saw two men pull up outside the store on a scooter or flee following the offence or who can help identify the offenders to contact myself at Leeds District CID on 101.
