Armed robbery at Scarborough store

A man was hospitalised following an armed robbery at a Scarborough shop on Sunday night.

At 10.50pm three masked men entered the One Stop store in North Leas Avenue, one was carrying an axe and the other a large knife.

They made off with a quantity of cash after beating one employee.

One store worker, who did not wish to be named, said: “The were all wearing masks and gloves.

“One had an axe and the other a very large knife.

“They went over the counter and punched and kicked one of the staff.

“He was taken to hospital by police. The other member of staff is badly shaken but not injured.

“Police came and took forensic evidence and the CCTV footage.”

Police with dogs are currently searching gardens close by to the shop.

It is thought around £400 was taken.
