Axe-wielding burglar killed pet parrot during break in at West Yorkshire home

Burglars who broke in to a home in West Yorkshire and threatened the occupants killed their pet parrot, police said.

The burglary occurred at a house on Rayner Road, Brighouse, on Monday evening between 9.35 and 9.45pm.

One of the burglars had an axe, West Yorkshire Police said, and threatened a woman in her 60s and a man in his 30s inside the house, demanding cash.

Whilst leaving the house, they fatally injured a pet parrot.

Detectives are now appealing for any information to help trace the two men who broke in.

One of the suspects is described as white, around 5ft 7ins and of slim build. He was wearing a black ¾ length coat with his hood tightened around his face and a blue bandana across his mouth and nose. He is believed to have been in his early 20s.

The second suspect was also a white male, around 5ft 8ins and of slim build and also believed to be in his early 20s. He was wearing a plain grey hoody, pulled tight around his face.

He was wearing a red bandana across his face and was carrying an axe.

Both left the house through a back door onto a cobbled street running behind Rayner Road.
